BMW (abbrevation for Bayerische Motoren Werke; German for Bavarian Motor Works) is a German car and motorcycle manufacturer based in München (Munich), Bavaria. It was founded on March 7, 1916 and is one of the biggest German automotive manufacturers.

BMW's automotive history can be traced back to the 1920's with their first car produced in 1929 and their first motorcycle produced in 1921. The blue and white colors in BMW's logo is a reference to the colors in the Bavarian flag.

BMW is also an owner of the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
